Samsung shows the new Portable SSD T1 SSD

With Samsung 850 EVO and USB 3.0 interface

Samsung 850 EVO is definitely one of the most interesting SSDs on the market and it does not come as surprise that Samsung decided to squeeze it into an external USB 3.0 enclosure and launch it as the Portable SSD T1 during CES 2015.

Weighing in at 30g and with 71x9.2x53.2mm dimensions, this will be one of the best, and probably one of the fastest external storage devices on the market. With transfer speeds of up to 450MB/s and to be available in 250GB, 500GB and 1TB capacities, as well as backed by a 3-year warranty and featuring AES 256-bit encryption, the Samsung Portable SSD T1 is definitely something that we would want in our backpack or even our pocket.

While the performance is limited by USB 3.0 interface, the Portable SSD T1 features the same 8-channel controller paired up with 3D V-NAND as the 850 EVO and also features that same SLC TurboWrite cache that speeds up the TLC storage NAND. While maximum sequential speed is limited at 450MB/s by USB 3.0 interface, random performance is set at 8,000 IOPS read and 21,000 IOPS write.

According to Samsung, the Portable SSD T1 is expected in retail sometime in mid-January with a price set at US $179.99 for 250GB, $299.99 for 500GB, and $599.99 for 1TB. Samsung also noted that it is working on an M.2 version of the 850 EVO SSD.
