According to the latest research report, Nvidia is gaining ground over AMD as it has gained quite a lot of graphics card market share in Q3.
According to the report coming from Jon Peddie Research, Nvidia now holds around 70 percent of Add-in-Board (AiB) graphics card market share. While Nvidia certainly did good with the launch of Geforce GTX 980 and GTX 970 Maxwell-GPU based graphics cards, AMD move to cut retail prices of its Radeon graphics card lineup could result in rather interesting Q4 report. On the other hand, latest rumors suggest that Nvidia might come up with mid-range Maxwell based GTX 960 which should have a great impact on the market share.
AMD scored big with console deals and there are plenty of rumors regarding AMD's upcoming next-gen Caribbean Islands GPU which should be ready in mid-2015 as well as a faster version of the Hawaii GPU which should come early next year, but for now, Nvidia certainly has the upper hand.
According to an article over
at Fool.com, AMD might be in for some rough period and that "there's no question that NVIDIA has gotten the better of AMD," and that "All AMD has is hype, and that's just not enough." While we do not agree that things are looking so grim for AMD, we must say that Nvidia is certainly pushing hard and the fact that it holds 70 percent of AiB market share still remains.
Hopefully, fourth quarter will be much better for AMD and when it comes to GPUs, next year will certainly be quite interesting.
