Although we already knew that it was coming, Nvidia has now officially announced that its Shield Tablet will be getting the Android 5.0 Lollipop update on November 18th, as well as some other novelties including the new GRID cloud gaming service which will allow you to stream some games as well as well as a new game bundle for the 32GB version of the Shield Tablet.
As expected, Nvidia's Shield Tablet
will be getting a taste of Google's latest Android 5.0 Lollipop and its Material Design layout. Although the Android 5.0 update might be the biggest news, Nvidia prepared a rather neat surprise as it will finally pull its Nvidia GRID cloud gaming service from beta. Usually described as Netflix for games, the GRID will allow you to play some games without having to install them on your device, by simply streaming them from a server.
The only thing that you need for Nvidia GRID is a 5GHz WLAN connection and some games that are on Nvidia's list, including Astebreed, Alan Wake American Nightmare, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Batman: Arkham City, Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Brutal Legend, Darksiders, Darksiders 2, Dead Island, Dirt 2, Nail’d, Psychonauts, Race Driver Grid, Saints Row: The Third, Street Fighter X Tekken, Strike Suit Zero, Trine 2, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and Ultra Street Fighter 4, which will work flawlessly at 60fps on Shield Tablet via streaming and even be free.
In addition to these 20 games, Nvidia is also launching
the Green Box Bundle, which includes Half Life 2, Half Life 2: Episode One and Portal, which are all optimized for Shield Tablet and will be even free for those that buy Nvidia's Shield Tablet 32GB 4G LTE version.
In addition to the Nvidia GRID, Nvidia will also update the Shield Hub and give it a makeover as well as updated the Dabbler app to version 2.0. In case you missed it, Dabbler is Nvidia's drawing and painting app that will now have even more tools and features, including live-streaming via Twitch.
In any case, this will be one of the biggest and probably one of the best updates for Nvidia's Shield Tablet and could make it into a proper gaming tablet, if all goes well with Nvidia GRID.
