In addition to the new Alienware Area 51 desktop which was showcased during PAX East as well as availability of its earlier announced Alienware 13 notebook, Dell-owned Alienware has announced a rather interesting Graphics Amplifier device, which is basically an external PCI-Express graphics card dock.
Alienware's Graphics Amplifier is not something that we have not seen before as various manufacturers have tried similar things and we have seen similar device even from AMD itself. As it was the case with those previous devices, Alienware's Graphics Amplifier will use a proprietary PCI-Express based connector and will now only work with the new Alienware 13 notebook.
According to Alienware, the Graphics Amplifier will work with any graphics card as long as it draws under under 375W of power. When paired up with Alienware's newest Alienware 13 notebook, it will provide desktop graphics quality gaming at home and boost Alienware 13 "already potent" gaming performance.
Alienware was always reserved for those with deeper pockets so US $299 price, without graphics card of course, should not be a problem, and if anyone can sell it, Alienware can.
Alienware has also announced its new Area 51 desktop equipped with Intel's six- or eight-core Haswell-E Core i7 CPU, wide choice of AMD and Nvidia graphics card, up to 32GB of DDR4 memory, wide choice of SSD and HDD storage options, Killer Gigabit Ethernet and Intel's 802.11ac dual-band WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0.
As expected, Alienware has also announced the availability of its
previously announced Alienware 13 notebook with optional 2560x144 QHD screen, Intel Core i5 CPU and Nvidia GTX 860M GPU.
According to Alienware, the Area 51 desktop, starting at US $1,699, the Alienware 13 notebook, starting at US $999, as well as the new US $299 priced Alienware Graphics Amplifier should all be available for order as of today with global availability expected this holiday season.
