While the new Apple Mac mini certainly looked like a great little system back when Apple announced it a couple of days ago, it does come with a few flaws, as the the RAM is not upgradeable and HDD upgrade voids the warranty.
While this is not a deal breaker since all three new Mac mini models can be upgraded to a maximum of 16GB of RAM, which will set you back for US $300 on the base model and US $200 for mid- and high-end model, this will not work well with DIY users and pretty much forces buyers to upgrade the RAM before buying the new Mac mini, or precisely order it with more RAM.
The confirmation that the new Mac mini comes with soldered RAM has been
confirmed on Twitter by Brian Stucki from Macminicolo. Brian also added that while it is possible to access and replace or upgrade the hard drive inside the new Mac mini, this will most likely void the warranty.
In case you missed it back when it was announced, the new Apple Mac mini starts at US $499 and is available in three different configurations. We
already wrote about the Mac mini back when it was announced, and the high-end model, with dual-core Core i5 2.8GHz clocked CPU, Intel Iris graphics, 8GB of RAM and 1TB Fusion Drive, does not sound like a bad choice.
