OpenControllers working for éc a l

The Swiss company “éc a l” developed a new gaming controller, based on materials available at Ikea, and an Apple smartphone.

The idea, developed by “éc al”, is to take everyday objects and turn them into gaming controller. To make the first model, they just needed a smartphone app, a few data from the manufacturer, and the materials, which are coming from Ikea, the famous furniture manufacturer.

If you think about it, modern smartphones are just what you need, if you’re building a gaming controller, since they feature many sensors like rotation, change of position, GPS, light and many more.

You can see the final result (using an Apple device) in the two videos below: we must admit, the idea is very interesting, especially if you think about the possible application in the virtual reality market, which is becoming stronger and stronger.
