Blizzard Entertainment has decided to cancel the project Titan, a rumored MMO that the developer has been developing for more than seven years.
According to Blizzard's Mike Morhaime, the developer "didn't find the fun" and "didn't find the passion" and when they did the a re-evaluation of the project, decided to cancel it. Blizzard also had some worries that rolling out Titan would shape them into an online RPG company, which is not the direction in which Blizzard wants to go, as it intend to release "great games every time", despite the genre.
While this is not the first time that Blizzard cancel the title as we had some earlier examples like Starcraft Ghost and Warcraft Adventures.
According to analysts, including Michael Patcher, cancellation of Titan will definitely be a costly one, saying that, “At their lead time, there won’t be a game for years. So they have to deal with inevitable declines in revenues and no new game on the horizon. I think it is a problem.”
Blizzard sort of needed the new IP and Titan was the best bet for the company since World of Warcraft has fallen down to 6.8 million active subscribers, down from around 12 million in its gold days.
This is definitely an interesting move from Blizzard and hopefully we will hear about something new from it soon.
