ASUS might sue other motherboard makers

Over OC Socket patent infringement

It appears that patent lawsuits might extend to the motherboard market as well. According to a fresh report, ASUS might sue other motherboard makers for patent infringement over ts OC Socket, a feature that gave ASUS' X99 motherboards an edge over competition.

According to the report coming from Digitimes.com, ASUS learned that a feature similar to its OC Socket, which adds extra pins to the LGA2011-v3 socket on ASUS' X99 Express chipset based motherboards, stabilize voltages and thus raises overclocking potential, is going to be included on some X99 Express chipset motherboards from other motherboard makers.

ASUS currently only suspects, based on its initial investigation, that supply chain makers leaked confidential OC Socket designs to competitors and plans to sue those same competitors for infringing patents.

Of course, the ASUS patent infringement lawsuit still has not been filed so nothing is still official but we will surely keep an eye on the situation.
