AMD Radeon R9 290X gets a price cut as well

Down to US $449

AMD is putting more pressure on the complete Nvidia graphics card lineup as, in addition to recent price cuts, it appears that AMD is working with its AIB partners and retailers to bring the price of its R9 290X flagship single-GPU graphics card down to US $449.

Recently, AMD slashed the price of its flagship dual-GPU Radeon R9 295X2 down to US $999 making it quite a choice for those with deeper pockets and it appears that now is the time for the single-GPU flagship as well. Currently at Newegg.com, the reference R9 290X can be found for as low as US $449 while, custom, non-reference design R9 290X graphics card go for around US $500.

This price cut probably comes as AMD's response to Nvidia's upcoming Geforce GTX 970 and GTX 980 graphics cards, which should put a lot of pressure on AMD. On the other hand, the biggest concern for AMD should be the GTX 960 mid-range sub-$300 graphics cards, rumored for mid- to late-October launch.

In any case, the AMD Radeon R9 290X, priced at US $449, sounds like a great catch as this one will still run all the games at decent level of quality.
