Motorola officially launches the Moto 360 at US $249

European listings put it at €249 and October 9th

Motorola has now officially announced and launched its first smartwatch, the Moto 360. The new Moto 360 is priced at US $249 and pretty much in line with previous rumors and reports. Based on a round design and features Texas Instruments OMAP SoC, the Moto 360 is as close to an elegant watch as possible.

Unfortunately, Motorola did not go into specifics regarding the hardware behind the Moto 360. What we do know and what was announced, is that it features a 1.56-inch LCD 320x290 resolution screen, which adds up to 205ppi, and that it is powered by a rather unusual Texas Instruments OMAP 3 SoC. Unfortunately, we do not have the specifics of that chip.

The rest of the known specifications include 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage and a 320mAh battery. It is based on Google's Android Wear OS, will features Bluetooth 4.0 LE, dual microphones, as well as optical heart rate monitor and pedometer. The Moto 360 is made of aluminum and it is IP67 certified, which means it is water resistant. The smartwatch itself does not feature any connectors as it relies solely on wireless charging.

While it is by design a round smartwatch, same as the LG G Watch, the Moto 360 is missing a a part of the screen at the bottom, which is used for display driver and some sensors apparently. The precise dimensions of the Moto 360 are 46mm in diameter and it is 11.5mm thick while weight is set at 49g with a leather strap.

Motorola's Moto 360, with leather band, will be available in the US as of today for US $249.99. The two metal band options will be available later this fall at US $299.99 while the metal band will be available separately for US $79.99. Motorola's Moto 360 has been also spotted in Europe with a price set at €249.99 and October 9th as an availability date.
