During Gamescom MSI previewed two out of four of its motherboards based on the Intel X99 Express chipset, the X99S Gaming 9 AC and the X99 SLI Plus.
At the MSI booth, the marketing director Dirk Neuneier revealed that the other two models planned for the X99 series will be the MSI X99S XPOWER AC and probably an mATX version based on the same chipset. The X99S Gaming 9 AC uses the classic Gaming theme already available on the current Z97 motherboards and graphics card with the same name.
The board uses Military Class IV components with practical buttons located directly on the PCB. As for connections, there are five PCI-Express 3.0 x16, ten SATA 6 GB/s and two SATA-Express. In addition to these slots, the motherboard model will also feature an NGFF slot in a isolated PCB section.
The most important feature of this board for gamers is definitely the AVerMedia chip that allows you to stream directly in 1080P at 60Mbps without a huge load on the GPU.
Since this model belongs to the high-end category, MSI also uses a dedicated chip Audio Boost ALC1150 for audio and Killer E2200 LAN for better network management.
On the back I/O panel there are two USB 2.0 ports, eight USB 3.0, Dual Gigabit Ethernet LAN, 802.11 B/G/N and 7.1 Channel audio jacks.
