We already wrote about reports which suggest that we might see Nvidia's new GTX 800 series as early as this October but according to the latest report, it appears that the company might launch a total of three different graphics cards, including the GTX 880, GTX 870 and the GTX 860.
The report from
Hermitage Akihabara caught by Kitguru.net, suggest that Nvidia will introduce two high-end graphics cards, the GTX 880 and the GTX 870, both based on the upcoming GM204 GPU in early October. The same report suggest that the company will also introduce a more of a mid-range graphics card, the Geforce GTX 860 which should be also based on the GM204 GPU.
This suggest that Nvidia can scale down the GM204 GPU and that the GPU is not too expensive to manufacture, which is a great thing for Nvidia. While there are still no performance details regarding the new graphics cards, the Geforce GTX 880, based on a 28nm Maxwell GM204 GPU, should be faster than the GTX 780 based on the GK110.
Of course, bear in mind that these are all still just rumors and hopefully we will hear more in a couple of days when
GamesCom 2014 kicks off in Cologne on August 13th.
