It looks like folks in North America are crazy about Chromebooks, which is partially because of their highly competitive prices as well as partially thanks to their focus on what's really essential. Apart from that it's becoming increasingly clear which Microsoft wants to join the party.
Looking at a recent report from NPD Group, a company that sepcializes on market research, we see that there have been 250 percent more Chromebooks sold this year than last year. Other than that market share of Chromebooks in the US is a whopping 35 percent.
35 percent really isn't nothing and it shows why Microsoft has to make a move. The simply can't afford sitting on their hands for even longer, since they're not making money they really should be making. A closer look at the top 10 selling notebooks in the US shows, that no less than five are Chromebooks.
When we look at the situation in Europe we see that Chromebooks are nothing unknown but sales numbers are nowhere near the ones in the US. Checking Amazon (FR) we found one model for 259.99 Euro under their top 10 selling notebooks. Overall we're really curious to see if Microsoft, together with it's partners, is able to create some damage on this market by offering ridiculously cheap Windows-based notebooks.
