OCZ's ZD-XL SQL accelerator - OCZ Whitepaper

Key elements for efficient SQL server acceleration

OCZ has release yet another whitepaper written by Allon Cohen and Scott Harlin that focuses on key elements for efficient SQL server acceleration as well and the role of OCZ ZD-XL in it.

According to the whitepaper, IT managers are usually challenged to find the best eay to overcome application performance bottlenecks through the use of flash in the data center without disrupting proven enterprise application usage models. While low latency and high IOPS are a very important factors, the SSD has its own problems and an optimal solution for acceleration of an application, such as Microsoft SQL Server, requires the ability to fit in seamlessly into users’ environments while providing the collection of key ingredients through optimized software and hardware elements.

Key elements for efficient SQL server acceleration includes flash volume requirements, flash caching support, cache policy optimizations and dynamic pre-warming of cache as well as simplifying the DBA's life, which pretty much can be achieved with OCZ's ZD-XL SQL accelerator due to its perfect combination of highly advanced, SQL-optimized “decision engine,” lightning-fast flash memory, and wizard-based implementation software that lets database admins tweak caching variables and optimize performance based on a wide variety of workloads.

According to OCZ, ZD-XL SQL accelerator solution can improve database performance by anywhere between 3 and 20 times, depending on the actual database and the way it is used. You can check out more details in the whitepaper below.
