Intel shows 18 new Xeon processors

With up to 4.3 billion transistors

During the IDF, which is taking place these days, Intel announced no less than 18 Xeon E5-2600 v2 processors. These CPU's feature up to twelve cores with at total of 24 threads. Other than that there is a L3 cache which can store up to 30 Megabyte. Overall this sound like quite an improvement over the predecessor

Taking a closer look at Intel's updated product protfolio reveals, that most of the 18 new processors feature ten or six cores. In total there are only two chips, which feature the monstrous twelve core die, which boasts no less than 4.3 billion transistors. In this case it looks like Intel is expecting the highest demand which server CPU's that feature between six and ten cores or in other words, twelve and 20 threads.

Also with the new Xeon E5-2600 v2 processors, Intel is using the exact same socket LGA 2011 like we know it from the predecessor. Therefore there is again a quad-channel memory interface, which has been upped to DDR3-1866. Apart from that there are 40 PCI-Express 3.0 lanes per CPU, which can be used in combination with Intel's C600 chipsets.
