HDMI Forum releases HDMI 2.0 specification

Increased bandwidth and 4k 50/60Hz feature

HDMI Forum has announced the release of version 2.0 of the HDMI specification that will bring higher bandwidth, 4K@50/60 reproduction, more audio channels, dynamic auto lip-sync and extensions to CEC.

This latest HDMI Specification will actually be the first to be developed by the HDMI Forum and will bring some well important and long needed improvements including a significant increase in bandwidth, up to 18Gbps, support for 4K@50/60 (2160p) which should offer 4 times the clarity when compared to 1080p/60 resolution, up to 32 audio channels, as well as dynamic auto lip-sync and extensions to CEC. The most important thing is that it will work with current cables and connectors which are capable of carrying the increased bandwidth.

HDMI Forum will hold a press conference at IFA 2013 in Berlin that will shed more light on the new HDMI 2.0 while the HDMI 2.0 Compliance Test Specification (CTS) is expected to be released before the end of 2013.
