AMD says hybrids are the future

Bets a lot on Temash and Kabini

While speaking to Trustedreviews.com about its upcoming System-on-Chip (SoC) Temash and Kabini platforms, Director of Mobility at AMD, Kevin Lensing, noted that the growth of the traditional notebook is gone and on a decline and that the future is actually in tablets and hybrid devices.

According to Kevin Lensing, the reason behind it is the fact that standard notebooks simply did not keep pace with tablets and hybrids and that poor quality displays, limited mobility and slow boot speeds are the main reason that consumers are shifting their attention to hybrids and tablets.

AMD is betting quite a lot on hybrids and its upcoming Temash and Kabini platforms. Previously, AMD predicted the short life of netbooks and while Intel scored quite a lot with it and its Atom platforms those are practically dead and gone. Kevin also noted that current lack of sales makes it quite difficult for manufacturers to get a public response but hybrid form factor certainly draws a lot of attention.

AMD confess that it took them long to reply to the netbook but also claims that AMD practically killed the netbook with its Brazos APUs. Both Temash and Kabini platforms sounds really good on paper and both should offer a full tablet and full notebook experience at the same time with Turbo Dock technology and bunch of other features included.

In any case it is left to be see if AMD can make an impact on the market and if Temash and Kabini will be the turning point in the hybrid form factor market.
