During its yesterday event and in addition to the new Nexus 7 and the Chromecast, Google has also announced the new Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. The new Android 4.3 can be considered as a minor update rather than a big, game-changing one, that will just improve user experience.
The new Android 4.3 Jelly Bean brings brings restricted profiles, Bluetooth Smart, OpenGL ES 3.0 and new DRM APIs. It will launch on the new Nexus 7 while it will roll out as an OTA update to Nexus 4, Nexus 10, Galaxy Nexus and the old Nexus 7.
As noted, the new Android 4.3 JB update brings restricted profiles, an add-on to multiple profiles introduced with the Android 4.2 version. The new restrictions practically allow OS and apps to act differently depending on the profile restriction settings and will be mostly used by partners to limit usage for children.
The new version also brings Bluetooth Smart as well as support for OpenGL ES 3.0 that should bring a new level of detail in graphics and allow developers to make even more graphics intensive games. During its presentation, Google showed a new Unity demo that showed some new OpenGL ES 3.0 effects including advanced shadows and lens flare effects.
Google also brought a new set of DRM APIs with the Android 4.3 in order to take advantage of HD content on its new Nexus 7 and its 7-inch 1920x1200 screen. Netflix has also jumped on board and will offer 1080p streaming for the new Nexus 7.
