Nvidia unveils the new Quadro K6000 GPU

Kepler-based GPU for visual computing

During SIGGRAPH 2013 event, Nvidia announced its newest flagship Quadro K6000 GPU aimed for use in visual computing in the professional graphics market.

Based on the 28nm Kepler architecture, the new Quadro K6000 feature 2880 streaming multiprocessor (SMX) cores, 240 texture units and 48 ROPs and packs a total of 12GB of GDDR5 memory on a 384-bit wide memory interface. Performance wise, the new Quadro K6000 delivers up to five times more compute performance and up to 1.7 times more graphics performance when compared to its predecessor, the Quadro 6000. The GPU under the Quadro K6000 cooler is clocked at around 900MHz while mentioned 12GB of GDDR5 memory ended up with a 6GHz clock. The TDP is set at 225W.

Since it is based on Kepler architecture, the new Quadro K6000 supports Nvidia's second-generation Maximus technology that support GPU switch and thus allows the K6000 to be dedicated to graphics work while compute is switched to a more powerful Tesla based graphics card in certain multiple workloads scenarios.

The new Quadro K6000 will start to ship sometimes during this fall and will be available via Nvidia AIB partners like ELSA, PNY and Leadtek as well as Nvidia's OEM partner network that includes Dell, HP, Lenovo, Supermicro and others. The price is still a mystery but you can expect it to range anywhere between US $5000 and $7000 a piece.
