Toshiba has announced two new SSHD that will feature a 2.5-inch 7mm thick form factor and be available in capacities of 320 and 500GB. The Toshiba MQ01ABFH series feature a standard HDD configuration paired up with 8GB of NAND that should provide significant performance improvement when compared to traditional HDDs, according to Toshiba.
According to Toshiba, the MQ01ABFH SSHD series brings improved response time and performance aimed at ultra-thin notebooks and will be joining already available 9.5mm thick 750GB and 1TB models in Toshiba's SSHD lineup. The new MQ01ABFH series does not need any addition external drivers or operating system assistance thanks to its self-learning, caching algorithms that manage the data stored in the NAND flash storage.
According to Toshiba's benchmarks, the MQ01ABFH line managed to score four times higher in PCMark Vantage when compared to traditional 5,400 RPM 2.5-inch SATA HDDs.
The SSHD market is starting to gain momentum as ultra-thin notebooks become more and more popular and we are sure that we will see more of these in near future. According to Toshiba, the MQ01ABFH series will be shipping to PC makers by the end of this month.
