NVIDIA with faster GTX 1080 and 1060 cards

Thanks to quicker memory chips

Following the launch of the GTX 1080 Ti, NVIDIA has now announced two new enhanced GTX 1080 and GTX 1060 GPU variants. Both cards come with an impressively quick memory. At the moment NVIDIA has not yet announced the availability of these GPUs, or if they will be coming with a different name like the GTX 1080 Boost or GTX 1060 Ti.

Both graphics cards come with memory that features clock speed that have been increased by 1 Gbps, giving the GTX 1080 a 10% boost in memory bandwidth. In the case of the GTX 1060 a 12.5% boost in memory bandwidth is achieved. Therefore both cards are going to be equipped with faster memory chips, with the GTX 1080 moving to GDDR5X and the GTX 1060 using 9Gbps chips.

According to the latest rumors the new "enhanced GTX 1060" might be called GTX 1060 Ti and it will also come with support for SLI, which is a feature that is missing from Nvidia's existing GTX 1060 models.

Basically NVIDIA is allowing partners to order 11 Gbps GDDR5X for the GeForce GTX 1080 and 9 Gbps GDDR5 for the GeForce GTX 1060. So far NVIDIA has not revealed details regarding the GeForce GTX 1070. Therefore NVIDIA still has a strategic ace up its sleeve should AMD come up with something that targets the GeForce GTX 1070.
