Seagate has updated its 2.5-inch FireCuda SSHD and 2.5-inch Barracuda HDD lineups with new, higher capacities, adding 2TB to the FireCuda SSHD and 5TB to the Barracuda range.
In addition to a standard 5TB 2.5-inch Barracuda HDD, which comes in the same 2.5-inch 7mm-thick form-factor with SATA 6Gbps interface and 128MB of DRAM cache, Seagate has also added a 2TB capacity version to its 2.5-inch FireCuda SSHD lineup.
In case you missed it earlier, the 2.5-inch FireCuda SSHD lineup was available in 500GB and 1TB capacities and offered impressive performance boost compared to the standard HDD.
This was done by adding 8GB of on-board NAND flash as well as the Seagate Multi-Tier Caching algorithm, which analyze the usage of the system and place commonly used files on the NAND flash part of the SSHD, providing both higher performance as well as lower power consumption.
According to Seagate, the FireCuda SSHD runs games up to 50 percent faster, loads applications around 300 percent faster and boots up around 25 percent faster, compared to the standard 7,200RPM 2.5-inch HDD.
The 2.5-inch FireCuda SSHD lineup is aimed at high-end and gaming notebooks and workstations meant for professional applications.
Unfortunately, Seagate did not reveal any details regarding the price but these new capacities should show up on retail/e-tail shelves soon.
