According to the latest report, solid state drives (SSDs) might surpass hard disk drives (HDDs) in notebooks by in 2018.
According to a report by DRAMeXchange, the SSD adoption rate in the notebook market could exceed 30 percent in 2016 and reach 50 percent in 2018.
According to DRAMeXchange, SSD adoption rate in the notebook market has risen to 32-33% in the second quarter and with an 8.2 percent sequential increase in global notebook shipments in the same quarter, should lead to an even larger SSD adoption rate.
With SSDs reaching much higher capacities and lower prices, they should offer enough storage for most notebook users, while reducing power consumption and increasing reliability, these should become more popular in notebooks.
The smaller size of SSDs, lower power consumption and lack of moving parts, compared to HDDs, should allow notebook manufacturers to make thinner notebooks, especially with the rising popularity of the M.2 form-factor.
Unfortunately, due to an increased demand from notebook market, the rest of the SSD market could experience a slight increase in prices.
