Nvidia GTX 1080 does not engage GPU Boost in VR

Fix coming soon

While Nvidia Pascal-based GTX 1080 and GTX 1070 graphics cards already have a problem with HTC Vive and DisplayPort outputs, it appears that there is yet another problem with latest Geforce 368.69 drivers as the Geforce GTX 1080 does not engage GPU Boost in VR.

Although the earlier released the Geforce 368.69 Game Ready drivers were meant to provide optimizations for Codemaster's Dirt Rally VR update, it actually has problems with VR on the Geforce GTX 1080, as the card constantly works at its GPU base clock.

Tomshardware.com spotted the problem on Reddit and has performed some test to confirm it and it appears that the GTX 1080 holds GPU Boost clocks whenever SteamVR is running. Unfortunately, there is no word if the problem is affecting the GTX 1070 as well but this is a big issue as the GTX 1080 GPU boost is significant and could provide a much need boost when playing VR games.

Thankfully, Nvidia has reached out to Tomshardware.com, saying that they are aware of t he issue and already have a solution ready so upcoming drivers update, which should come later this week, will solve both the Boost clock issues well as the HTC Vive VR headset DisplayPort issue.

We will surely keep an eye on Nvidia's drivers support page for this update.
