AMD shows ZEN CPU at its Computex 2016 event

No demo, just the silicon

During its Computex 2016 event, AMD has briefly showed the Zen silicon, confirming earlier details that it will be first available as Summit Ridge in desktop CPU as well as provide all the performance improvements that we heard earlier.

AMD's CEO, Lisa Su, was quite keen to note that Zen will scale across multiple markets, starting off with desktop and server markets and then expanding to notebook and embedded markets. AMD's Zen taped-out earlier this year and it will first be available as a desktop part, code-name Summit Ridge, with 8 cores and 16 threads.

AMD also confirmed that it will deliver 40 percent more IPC increase and come with all new AM4 desktop platform.

While AMD did not show a working Zen-based system, it did show the Zen silicon, saying that samples should be in hands of some OEM partners soon with wider sampling expected in Q3 this year.

Unfortunately, AMD did not reveal any new details regarding the actual availability date.

AMD also noted that Zen CPU architecture will be a base for its next 8th-generation APUs.
