Micron has jumped the gun and has officially announced its newest consumer MX300 SSD with TLC 3D V-NAND.
Although expected around Computex in June, Micron's yields of the 256Gbit 3D V-NAND flash memory must be quite good as the company has unveiled its new MX300 SSD, saying that it should be available later this month.
Unfortunately, the company did not reveal any precise details regarding specifications or the performance but these could bring significant improvement in price per gigabyte due to the fact that they are based on 256Gbit 32 stacked layers NAND. This is also twice the density compared to current 16nm planar NAND and will also bring higher capacity SSDs.
According to some information online, the Micron MX300 SSD should be available in 275GB, 525GB, 750GB, 1TB and 2TB capacities in 2.5-inch form-factor as well as a couple of different capacities in M.2 form factor. The performance is rumored at up to 530MB/s for read and up to 510MB/s for write with random 4K read and write performance of up to 83K and 92K IOPS.
Hopefully, Micron will release a bit more details soon as we certainly looking forward to see some action in the SSD market.
