During the Game Developer Conference 2016 in San Francisco, Sony has announced that its Playstation VR, virtual reality (VR) headset, is launching in October with a price of US $399.
The US $399 price for the Playstation VR makes it one of the most affordable VR headsets that will be available. In case you missed it, the Playstation VR will only work on Playstation 4, feature a 5.7-inch OLED display with 960x1080 per eye at between 90Hz and 120Hz, has 360 degree tracking with nine LEDs and offers about a 100 degree field of view and less than 18ms of latency.
Of course, you will also need Playstation Camera, priced at around US $50 and Playstation Move controllers which are priced at around US $50 a piece in order to get a full experience.
Even with the Playstation 4, which adds up to about US $750 with Playstation VR, Sony's VR headset still ends up cheaper than HTC's Vive headset priced at US $799.
Currently, there are 230 game developers and publishers working on 160 varoius Playstation 4 titles and Sony is promising around 50 games for Playstation 4 by the end of this year, including the Star Wars: Battlefront VR which will be exclusive to Playstation VR.
