ASUS announces ROG Maximus VIII Extreme motherboard

Based on Intels Z170 chipset

ASUS has now officially unveiled its new flagship motherboard, the Intel Z170-based Republic of Gamers Maximus VIII Extreme.

Bearing both the Republic of Gamers and Extreme tags, the new Maxiums VIII Extreme is designed by ASUS' own overclocking team and represents the pinnacle of Z170 Express chipset based motherboards from ASUS.

Based on Intel's Z170 Express chipset, the new ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Extreme features support for Intel's latest 6th generation Core Skylake CPUs and it focused on both high-end gaming as well as extreme overclocking scenarios.

Featuring plenty of overclocking-focused ROG-exclusive features like Pro Clock, 2nd-gen T-Topology, Extreme Engine DIGI+, Subzero Sense, VGA Hotwire, Slow Mode and Pause switch, the new Maximus VIII Extreme also comes bundled with the new OC Panel II, a 2.6-inch display devices that can sit inside the 5.25-inch bay or taken out as an external console, and monitor CPU temperature, ratio, base clock and fan speeds as well as use all those ROG-exclusive features.

The ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Extreme features four DIMM slots with support for up to 64GB of DDR4-3866 memory, three PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots (working at x16, x8/x8 or x8/x4/x4 mode), single PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot (at x4) and two PCI-Express 3.0 x1 slots. It also comes with eight SATA 6Gbps ports, four which are shared with two SATA Express ports, one M.2 Socket 3 with M Key slot and one U.2 slot.

The rest of the specifications and features include Intel I219-V Gigabit Ethernet, four USB 3.1 ports including three Type-A and one Type-C port, eight USB 3.0 and six USB 2.0 ports, one Thunderbolt 3 Type-C port, ROG Supreme FX 2015 7.1-channel audio with ESS ES9023P DAC and dedicated headphone amp, DisplayPort and HDMI outputs and more.

Bear in mind that the ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Extreme is an E-ATX motherboard, measuring at 30.5x27.2cm. The new ROG Maximus VIII Extreme motherboard also comes with few software additions including the RAMCache, KeyBot II, AI Suite and Overwolf.

The new ASUS Republic of Gamers Maximus VIII Extreme will probably be one of the most expensive Z170-based motherboards on the market, but as always, plenty of features, high-end specifications and high-end components always come with a high price, so we expect it to hit the market at around US $500.
