Sony has announced that its global shipments of the Playstation 4 game console have exceeded 25 million units. The Playstation 4 is doing so good that it is on a clear path to become the best selling console ever.

Since the console launched back in November 2013, Sony managed to sell more than 25.3 million units worldwide, with over 3 million units during the first quarter of fiscal 2016 (Q2 2015). In this first financial quarter, sales of the Playstation 4 not only exceeded the expectations and outsell its main rival, Xbox One, but also managed to beat combined shipments of all four consoles currently selling, including XBox 360, Xbox One, Wii U and Wii.

These numbers also mean that Playstation 4 is on a good path to become one of the best selling console ever, just as soon as it outsells the Playstation 2 which managed to sell in a total of 155 million units during its lifetime. Playstation 2 actually needed two years and eight months to go over 20 million, which makes the Playstation 4 a clear success.

Sony expects that Playstation 4 will keep its strong sales numbers and will go over 40 million units by the end of this quarter and reach quite high during next Christmas shopping season.
