While Intel usually first announced high-end CPUs and leaves the entry-level Pentium and Celeron parts for later, Broadwell apparently had a different treatment as Intel decided to first announce mainstream and entry-level parts while quad-core mobile chips are expected at a later date.

We already seen Intel's Broadwell architecture with 4.5W TPD Core M parts, also known as the Y-series, and while these were interesting because of the new architecture, these were still the slowest and low-power chips, which makes the U-series dual-core mainstream parts a bit more interesting.

As noted, the Broadwell U-series will not only bring CPU performance improvements thanks to a higher clocks, but also a much better graphics performance, up to 20 percent according to Intel.

Intel basically launched two Broadwell CPU dies, one smaller and one larger with more GPU power. The smaller die is actually identical to the Broadwell Y-series since it is pretty much the same die with Intel HD 5500 graphics part but with much higher TDP and higher clocks.

The larger die, on the other hand, will have two versions, one with Iris 6000 series GPU part for 15W TDP parts and with Iris 6100 for 28W parts. The Intel HD 5500 GT2 GPU has 24 EUs (Execution Units) while the Iris 6000/6100 GPU has 48 EUs.

The new Broadwell U-series lineup starts with four 28W TDP models with Iris graphics part as well as thirteen 15W SKUs.

Most of those will be a part of Core i7 and Core i5 series, as well as three Core i3 parts, two Celeron and single Pentium part.

While all these Intel Broadwell U-series CPUs are now officially announced, there won't be any notebooks with Iris 6100 graphics part until end of Q1 2015.

Intel expects first products with Broadwell U-series chips on the market by the end of this month and also noted that some of these will end up in Chromebooks, as well as other notebooks.

Desktop Broadwell 45W TDP parts on the other hand will not be available before mid-2015.
