Crucial ships DDR4 for servers, desktop in August

Ballistix Elite DDR4 coming

Crucial has kicked off its Computex 2014 product launch lineup with a couple of SSDs but has also announced that it has started to ship its first DDR4 server memory designed for Haswell-EP based Intel Xeon CPUs. It has also revealed that first DDR4 desktop Ballistix Elite DDR4 modules will be available in August.

The new Crucial DDR4 server memory is running on 2133 MT/s which translates to around 17GB/s of bandwidth. It will be available in 4, 8 and 16GB modules and Crucial expects 32, 64 and 128GB in near future, with the introduction of 1GB DDR4 dies.

The more interesting, at least for consumers, is Crucial's announcements that first DDR4 desktop modules, with support for Intel's Haswell-E CPUs and X99 Express chipset, will be coming in August. The Ballistix Elite, as Crucial decided to name them, will be running at 2600 and 3000 MT/s. It features a newly designed heatspreader and will also include an on-board temperature sensor as well as support Intel's new XMP 2.0 profiles.

In addition to the Ballistix Elite modules and kits, Crucial will also have some standard desktop DDR4 modules.

Unfortunately, we are still waiting for Intel's official launch date for the Haswell-E and the X99 Express chipset but since Crucial will be ready in August, we suspect that those will not be far behind either.
