Crucial has unveiled its latest SSD series, the Crucial MX100, which will be a direct replacement for the aging M500 series, be available in 128, 256 and 512GB capacities and use Micron's new 16nm 128Gb NAND.
As noted, the new MX100 SSD series from Crucial will be a direct replacement for the quite popular Crucial M500 series, aiming for the low price hot-spot, while the M550 series will still remain as the higher-performance SSD lineup. It is still based on pretty much the same architecture as the M500 and M550 series SSDs with the same Marvell 88SS9189 controller which is now paired up with Micron's new 16nm 128Gb MLC NAND.
It is based on a standard 7mm 2.5-inch form factor and uses SATA 6Gbps interface and provides sequential read and write performance of up to 550MB/s and 500MB/s as well as 4k random read and write performance of up to 90K and 85K IOPS.
The aforementioned controller has been updated to support DevSLP as well as offer some additional bandwidth optimization and the rest of the features for the Crucial MX100 series include hardware encryption, Native Write Acceleration, Adaptive Thermal Protection and Power Loss Protection.
The new Crucial MX100 SSD series should be already available with a price set at US $79.99 for the 128GB model, US $109.99 for the 256GB one and US $224.99 for the 512GB model.
