Linux Mint is one of the most successful Ubuntu branches, probably thanks to its graphic interfaces, the MATE and the Cinnamon, which are very easy to use if you are switching from Windows. The version 17 of the Linux Mint brings a few improvements and it gives long-term support.
GNU/Linux is a big world, where everybody can find what they need, thanks to a multitude of different offers. Ubuntu's simplicity can be really useful, but its GUI has been greatly criticized. To solve this problem, they created the Linux Mint.
As it often happens, this Linux Mint version comes out about 2 months after the latest Ubuntu. The Qiana is the codename for Linux Mint 17 and it is based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Long Time Support), which will grant its patches and updates until 2019.
The MATE and the Cinnamon have been slightly upgraded, launcher has been improved and it has a lot of system enhancement that have been integrated. Even if you can't tell by the graphic interface, they are there and they are making your life much easier. The 32 and 64 bit version of both the MATE and the Cinnamon are available for free download over at Linux Mint's official website.
