More freedom for developers on Steam

To set sales prices themselves

Valve is granting developers more freedom on their Steam platform. The company around Gabe Newell allows developers to set their own discounts as well as sales periods and first developers are already confirming it.

On Reddit a developer called "Sharkiller" published a screenshot, where you can see a page that allows setting own discount plans. Developers can now choose the period and they can also opt in for upcoming Steam sales. In order to make this possible, Steam had to cooperate with developers to come up with these individual Steam sales.

Quote:
As with the addition of a 'Recently Updated' section to Steam, this is another effort to shorten the distance between developers and customers," Doug Lombardi from Steam said. This new Steamworks tool allows developers to configure discounts for their own products, on their own schedules. They can define custom sale periods or opt in to regularly scheduled sales. This will enable developers to better coordinate their promotions with events, announcements, or major updates they are planning for their products.
