Prior to 6TB capacity HDDs, Toshiba first have to launch the industry's first 5TB HDD on the 19th of February, at least judging by the press invite the company has sent out. On the same date Toshiba also plans to introduce a few new enterprise and consumer grade SSDs as well.
Although the details are still not clear, it appears that Toshiba will unveil its new 5TB HDDs during a press event scheduled for 19th of February in Taiwan. Although HGST currently leads the capacity game with its 6TB 7 platter design, these are based on Helium and ended up quite expensive when compared to traditional HDDs.
Unfortunately, there aren't any information regarding the actual models other than they will be based on both SATA 6Gbps and SAS interface. The same invite also show that Toshiba will also present new SSDs for both enterprise and consumer market but it is unclear if these are a result of recent OCZ acquisition or something that Toshiba has been working on before that. The only detail regarding SSDs is that they will be based on 19nm NAND flash design.
In any case, we will know for sure as soon as that press event kicks off in about a week.
