VAIO is one of the brands that have had a huge impact on the industry. For way more than a decade Sony's VAIO brand, stood for exceptional design and good quality and right now it's looking like Sony is going to sell it to Japan Industrial Partners (JIP).
It appears that Sony is taking the same course like IBM years ago when they sold off their ThinkPad brand to Lenovo, which is now the worlds largest manufacturer of PCs and notebooks. In this case it's also clear that VAIO notebooks, PCs, Ultrabooks, tablets, and convertibles won't disappear, they just won't be sold by Sony anymore.
One part of the deal will be that 300 employees from Sony will change to JIP, which is then basically set up to create a new PC company. At the moment of writing this article nothing has been carved in stone, but it very much looks like that the VAIO brand is not to stay with Sony anymore. The company is trying to get rid of underperforming businesses, in an attempt to further restructure the company.
