ASUS rolls out the new Chromebox

Starts at US $179

Google's Chrome OS is becoming more and more popular and we have recently seen quite a few neat looking Chromebox nettop systems and it is not a big surprise that ASUS wants a piece of that market with a launch of the new ASUS Chromebox system which starts at US $179 and is based on three different Haswell CPUs.

Priced at US $179 and packed inside a rather cute looking little box, the ASUS Chromebox is equipped with Intel Celeron 2955U CPU which can be upgraded to Core i3-4010U or Core i7-4600U. All three parts carry the same 15W TDP, which means that all three ASUS Chromebox SKUs will be fanless.

As it was the case with most ASUS systems, the Chromebox will also be available in a few different SKUs, depending on the amount of RAM, 2GB or 4GB. The rest of the specifications and features include 16GB of M.2 SSD storage with 100GB of Google Drive for two years, SD card reader, USB 3.0, Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11n WiFi and Displayport and HDMI otuputs.

Of course, Intel is also pushing hard with its NUC systems and both look quite good and all comes down to the scenario in which you want to use it.
