Valve has released a new user survey report for January this year showing that Microsoft's latest OS, Windows 8 and its famous Windows 8.1 update have climbed up to over 21 per cent and it is on its way to dethrone the Windows 7 with over 63 per cent.
Of course, this only includes Steam users and although the number is much better considering that most new notebooks now ship with Windows 8 OS. According to the Steam report, Windows XP is still holding strong at 6.25 per cent while Vista holds 4.3 per cent. Although Valve has invested and talked a lot about Linux gaming, the Linux user share is at mere 0.86 per cent.
In any case, Microsoft's new Windows 8.1 OS is doing quite well so far but Windows 7 is still the best choice for gamers, according to Steam results.
