Nvidia working on more high-end graphics cards

Dual-GK110 GTX 790 and GTX Titan Black Edition

Nvidia has only recently launched its newest flagship graphics card, the GK110-based GTX 780 Ti, but according to rumors floating around, Nvidia is not done with high-end GK110-based graphics cards as we might see both the dual-GPU GK110-based GTX 790 as well as the GTX Titan Black Edition pretty soon.

According to a rumor report from Videocardz, the launch of the GTX 790 and the GTX Titan Black Edition is coming soon and although the precise launch date are not confirmed, these are set for Q1 2014, or in next two months.

According to the same report, the GTX 790 will be based on two 28nm GK110 GPUs, adding up to 4992 CUDA, or 2496 CUDA cores per GPU. Although not confirmed, and thus should be taken with a grain of salt, rumors suggest that Nvidia had to make some cut-downs so the GTX 790 will not pack a dual 384-bit memory interface, but rather dual 320-bit one so it will end up with 10GB of GDDR5 memory, or 5GB per GPU. Nvidia will definitely had to make certain compromises in order to keep the GTX 790 below 300W TDP, so we will most likely also see lower clocks as well.

The GTX Titan Black Edition on the other hand, does not have much to do with recently launched GTX 780 Ti as it will be solely released to replace the GTX Titan. Although it will be based on the same GPU as the GTX 780 Ti, it will have higher double precision computing performance, or more FP64 CUDA cores. It will pack 6GB of memory and be paired up with a black reference cooler.

In any case, we will certainly know for sure as we draw closer to the end of Q1 2014.
