As most partners did, MSI has also launched MSI-branded Radeon R9 290X that will be available with and without the Battlefield 4 Origin code and be based on AMD's reference design.
In case you missed it earlier, AMD's Radeon R9 290X is based on the 28nm Hawaii XT GPU with 2816 stream processors, 176 texture memory units, 64 ROPs and a 512-bit memory interface paired up with 4GB of GDDR5 memory. It supports DirectX 11.2 as well as AMD's new Crossfire via PCI-Express, Eyefinity, and Mantle API and comes with two DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs. The official price is set at US $549.99 in the US and €399 ex. VAT in Europe.
MSI, as most AMD AIB partners, decided to stick with reference 850MHz GPU base, 1000MHz GPU Boost and 5000MHz memory clocks. As noted earlier, the R9 290X is based on reference design and uses AMD's dual-slot blower-style cooler.
Most partners, including MSI, are currently racing to come up with custom designs and we are sure that MSI will have the Gaming series version ready as soon as possible. Of course, Lightning version might be in development as well and could be one to keep an eye on later this year.
