According to the latest leaked slide that showed up at VR-Zone.com, Intel's Broadwell-K series CPUs for LGA 1150 desktop platform should launch in Q4 2014 alongside the Haswell refresh.
Intel's Broadwell-K series CPUs as well as Haswell refresh will launch alongside the new 9-series Haswell refresh platform, the Z97 Express chipset. Intel's Broadwell-K, as the name suggest, will only be available in K-series unlocked versions and it is still not clear when Intel plans to come up with non-K versions of the same chip. In case you missed it earlier, Broadwell-K will be based on the new 14nm manufacturing process, while Haswell refresh chips will stick to existing 22nm one and only feature few enhancements and clock adjustments.
The Z97 Express chipset that should launch alongside these new chips is a bit more interesting as it should feature native SATA Express support with transfer speeds of up to 10 to 16Gbps. It is also expected that the new chipset feature Intel's device protection with boot guard as well as Intel's new Smart Response and Rapid Start technologies with Dynamic Cache sharing.
There were also some rumors that the ne platform will feature new power supply ratings that could change the whole socket compatibility game since, despite the fact that it could be compatible with the same socket, some CPUs will not be compatible with the same chipset. In short, if you are gunning for Intel Broadwell-K series CPU, you will most likely have to go for the Z97 Express chipset based motherboard as well.
Intel also plans to introduce the new HEDT Haswell-E CPUs sometime next year which should bring DDR4 memory support.
