As noted, both cards feature Asus' DIGI+ 20-phase VRM with Super Alloy Power technology that includes solid-state capacitors, concrete-core chokes and hardened MOSFETs that should reduce power noise and increase the graphics card's longevity. It also packs some of other Asus exclusive features including VGA Hotwire for voltage control and support for ASUS ROG GPU Tweak utility.
As noted earlier, the new Matrix R9 280X is based on the 28nm Tahiti GPU with 2048 stream processors, 128 TMUs, 32 ROPS and feature 3GB of GDDR5 memory. The standard Matrix R9 280X is clocked at 1000MHz for the GPU while the R9 280X goes a bit higher, to 1100MHz.
Asus decided to pair up its Matrix R9 280X with a rather hefty and quite recognizable copper-based cooler that features dual 100mm fans and should keep the card up to 20 percent cooler and up to three times quieter when compared to the reference design.
According to Asus, the ROG Matrix R9 280X Platinum and Matrix R9 280X will be available worldwide from 11th of October but the precise price still remains a mystery. AMD decided to slap a rather interesting US $299 price tag on the R9 280X so we certainly hope that Asus' ROG Matrix R9 280X will not have a hefty premium.
