WD announces world's thinnest 1TB HDD

The 2.5-inch WD Blue 7mm at 1TB

In the wake of Computex 2013, Western Digital has announced that it has started to ship the world's thinnest 1TB HDD, the 2.5-inch WD Blue 7mm. To be available in capacities from 320GB to 1TB, the new WD Blue 2.5-inch 7mm HDD is shipping to OEMs, channel integrators and consumers.

The new 2.5-inch 7mm thick WD Blue line will be mostly aimed at Ultrabook and thing and light market that were recently limited with storage space unless equipped with still expensive high-capacity SSD. According to Intel's Capabilities Marketing Manager, Roger Bradford, the new WD Blue 7mm HDDs are perfect for the upcoming Ultrabooks based on the 4th generation Core Haswell CPUs and will allow Intel and its partners to offer a new level of storage capacity for Ultrabooks, AIOs and other thin and light PCs.

The feature list for WD's new Blue 7mm HDD line includes WD's ShockGuard that will hepl to protect the mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks, WhisperDrive that enables quiet performance, StableTrac, Dual Stage Actuattors, WD SecurePark and extensive compatibility.

According to WD, the new 1TB WD Blue 7mm 2.5-inch HDD, backed by a two-year limited warranty, is currently shipping to distributors and sellers with an MSRP of US $139.
