Futuremark releases 3DMark for Android

Way to compare devices and platforms

Futuremark has now released the Android Edition of its new benchmarking software 3DMark. The Android Edition, and others to follow, will enable users to compare devices that are even based on different OS.

Developed in cooperation with Broadcom, Imagination Technologies, Intel, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and other world-class companies, the new 3DMark will allow users to test and compare the performance of devices running on Android, iOS, Windows and Windows RT.

The 3DMark Android Edition features two benchmarks, the Ice Storm and Ice Storm Extreme. Both benchmarks are based on OpenGL ES 2.0 and aimed at both smartphone and tablet devices.

The Ice Storm includes two graphics tests designed to stress the GPU performance as well as a physics test that should provide insight into CPU performance. The Ice Storm Extreme is pretty much the same but uses 1080p resolution, higher quality textures and post-processing effects. The Ice Storm Extreme test will soon be also available in the Windows version of the 3DMark so results will be comparable.

The new 3DMark for Android is available as of today at Google Play store and Futuremark's website while Windows RT and iOS versions should be available pretty soon.
