During the last week, AMD has announced that it would swap 40 Core i7-8086K won with the Intel sweepstakes program with Threadripper 1950X processor. Today AMD has officially opened its replacement program.


If you are an early adopter of the Core i7-8086K and you have won the Intel sweepstake, you might get a Threadripper 1950X for free. There are several limitations for this special deal, but AMD is actually offering a massive 16 core 32 thread processor for free. In order to swap your Intel CPU with the AMD one, you have to live in the USA. In case you are wondering for performance, the Core i7-8086K should be a bit faster in single-threaded performance while the Threadripper is a beast in multi-threaded applications.

At the moment isn't clear what AMD will do with the exchanged Core i7-8086K processors. It's possible that the company will use them for marketing purpose.
