During Computex 2017, ASUS has unveiled several upcoming motherboards and they’re all starting to hit the market. This time ASUS introduces the ROG Rampage VI Apex, it features an E-ATX form factor with several PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots and M.2 slots.


One of the most unconventional things about the Rampage VI Apex is the number of DIMM slots as well as their layout. There is a total of six slots, while four are for memory sticks and the other two can be equipped with two M.2 drives each.

Like all Rampage models the Rampage VI Apex is based on an E-ATX form factor. Although the mounting holes are compatible with the E-ATX form factor, the PCB features a characteristic X-design. There is a total of four full-sized PCIe slots with steel reinforcements and one PCIe x4 slot. With a 44-lane CPU, the motherboard supports x16/x8/x8/x8 configurations.

Storage wise you’ll find six angled SATA ports and and the ROG DIMM.2, which we’ve mentioned before. Both the adapter cards can be equipped with an additional 50mm fan to prevent thermal throttling to happen on the M.2 drives. Looking for additional features we find a debug display, several onboard buttons and support for USB 3.1. Although this board should be as simple as possible - being an overclocking motherboard - there is a SupremeFX S1220A audio chip in the bottom left corner.

Since the ROG Rampage VI Apex belongs to the vendor’s high-end series, there is also a plastic I/O cover. So far ASUS has not revealed details on pricing and availability on their ROG Rampage VI Apex but it will come anytime soon.
