ASUS unveils cryptocurrency mining graphics card

Two models so far

These days, the Bitcoin is experiencing another hype as currently the price for 1BTC is at a whopping $2'404 US. That means the value of one Bitcoin tripled within a very short period of time. As it always is with Bitcoin mining a big hype kicks in when the exchange rate explodes - as it just did. A few weeks ago we have seen rumors about upcoming mining GPUs and well here are some cards from ASUS now.

ASUS is offering two new cards for coin miners. The first card is named Mining-P106-6G and it's based on NVIDIA’s P106-100 GPU. The card uses the same cooler that we can find on the ASUS Expedition series of graphics cards. This particular heat sink comes with a dense aluminum fin stack, several heatpipes and two 80mm fans. The plastic shroud has been painted black with red accents. At the moment it’s still unclear which kind of PCB ASUS will use on this model, but according to the latest rumors the manufacturer might use a custom PCB since there aren't any connectors.

Furthermore ASUS adds the Mining-RX470-4G which, unlike its green-cousin, comes with video outputs. The Mining-RX470-4G features the same design you can find on the Mining-P106-6G, which means a black shroud with red accents. Speaking about frequencies, the ASUS Mining-P106-6G works at 1506MHz/1708MHz Core/Boost clocks and the Mining-RX470-4G works at 926MHz/1206MHz Core/Boost. Compared to the reference models, both cards come with a lower frequency in order to keep the power consumption low and increase the lifespan.

According to the latest rumors both cards should be available quite soon.
