Five new models
At Computex 2017 ASRock has shown their first batch of X299 motherboards for Intel's Basin Falls platform. Meanwhile there are quite a few pictures available online. So far ASRock has unveiled four new ATX models and one mini-ITX motherboard.
First of all we’re going to talk about the X299-E ITX/AC motherboard which features a mini-ITX form factor with four DDR4 SO-DIMM slots. Compared to the previous model several things have been changed like the color scheme or the number of DDR4 DIMM slots. According to latest rumors, this model should be compatible with the Intel's rumored Core-i9 7980XE 18 core processors. In other words you can pack an enormously powerful CPU into the socket of this mini-ITX motherboard. Due to the vertical PCB there is some extra space available and ASRock has added onboard controllers and two M.2 slots. In addition to the M.2 slots there are six SATA 6 ports.
The X299 Killer SLI/AC and the X299 Gaming K6 are based on the same PCB. What differs is the color scheme, the audio solution and a few connectors. These two models feature an ATX form factor with eight DDR4 DIMM slots. Both motherboards feature an 11-phase VRM with four PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots. Storage wise there are three M.2 slots and ten SATA 6 ports. On the ASRock X299 Gaming K6 there are additional features like a debug display and support for USB 3.1 ports.
In addition ASRock has also shown two high-end ATX form factor motherboards: the X299 OC Formula and the X299 Professional Gaming i9. In yesterday's news we have already been talking about the X299 OC Formula and today we will have a look at the X299 Professional Gaming i9. This motherboard might be the flagship gaming model. It's based on an ATX form factor and comes with eight DDR4 DIMM slots. There are four full-sized PCIe slots with steel reinforcements and one PCIe x1 slot. In the case of storage you’ll find ten angled SATA ports and three M.2 slots. Compared to the X299 Killer SLI/AC and the X299 Gaming K6 motherboards, this model features a even more solid power design and an Aquantia 10 Gigabit LAN chip.
At the moment this is basically all the information available on ASRock's upcoming X299 motherboards. It looks like ASRock is spending a lot of time when it comes to designing their new X299 based motherboards, trying to find the best solution for each user.
