AMD Zen-based mobile chips coming in Q2 2017

Could get AMD more design wins

According to the latest report, AMD's mobile single-chip APUs and CPUs could launch in Q2 2017.

As you already know, AMD should launch its AM4 socket desktop CPUs and APUs based on Zen CPU architecture in Q1 2017, which should be shortly followed by mobile chips based on the same architecture, scheduled for Q2 2017.

According to a report coming from Expreview.com, AMD could take advantage of the fact that Zen-based CPUs and APUs integrate the platform core-logic (chipset) in the actual CPU/APU. Due to the fact that notebooks does not need a lot of M.2, SATA or USB 3.0 ports, it is possible that we will see notebooks without "chipsets", which should enable AMD to score more design wins.

On the desktop side, AMD will definitely launch new chipsets for its Summit Ridge and Bristol Ridge CPUs and APUs, which will bring plenty of USB 3.1 Gen2, SATA 6Gbps and M.2 ports, but on mobile side, those ports might not be needed so it could end up with a single-chip design.

Hopefully we will hear more information during CES 2017 show in January when AMD is expected to show its new AM4 motherboards and launch its first Zen-based CPUs and APUs.
