It was just a matter of time before we have more information regarding the upcoming Radeon RX 470 and RX 460 graphics cards which will target mainstream and entry-level market segments.
The AMD Radeon RX 470 is based on the same Polaris 10 GPU, codename Ellesmere, as the earlier launched Radeon RX 480. It packs 2048 Stream Processors, 128 TMUs and 32 ROPs and comes with 4GB of GDDR5 memory with a 256-bit memory interface. The RX 470 still needs a single 6-pin PCIe power connector and has a TDP of around 110W.
The Radeon RX 470 should provide playable framerates at 1080p resolution and earlier details suggested that we will see it launch with a price starting at US $149.
The Radeon RX 460 is based on a smaller 14nm Polaris 11 GPU, codename Baffin. This GPU packs 896 Stream Processors and comes with 2GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 128-bit memory interface. The TDP is below 75W, so the RX 460 does not need any additional power from the PCIe power connectors and should be a decent choice for MOBA gamers, offering a decent performance boost without breaking the bank.
According to rumors, the Radeon RX 470 should be launch by the end of this month with availability scheduled for early August. The RX 460, should be coming soon as well but there is no precise launch date.
